The section begins with a challenging four mile climb (3100 ft) from the Tye River to the summit of The Priest with beautiful views of the Tye River Valley to the east. The Priest shelter is 4.8 miles from the river. The trail continues for one mile along a ridge to Crabtree Farm Road. This road leads 1/2 mile west to Crabtree Meadows and the junction of Crabtree Falls Trail that descends the mountain along a 1200 foot cascade. The AT continues and begins a 3 mile ascent of Main Top Mountain with views of The Priest and the rest of the "Religious Range" to the east (Little Priest, The Cardinal & The Friar). From the summit of Main Top the trail descends to Spy Rock, a large rock dome with 360 degree vistas, and then continues 1/2 mile to the junction of Fish Hatchery Road. This Road leads 1.1 mile west to the Montebello State Fish Hatchery.
